Grassroots Intelligence is spearheaded by Dr Joe Watkins, an experienced leader in AI strategy, data, and education.

Joe holds a PhD in Mathematics, specialising in quantum mechanics, and went on to lecture in Mathematics while building a strong reputation as both an educator and innovator. His background combines technical expertise with a passion for making complex ideas accessible and practical.

He has designed and delivered large scale programmes that integrate AI into the workplace, saving thousands of hours while improving quality, compliance, and staff confidence. He has also developed specialist programmes in AI change management, ensuring that organisations adapt responsibly and sustainably.

Joe has extensive experience across sectors, including award winning work in the charity sector and consultancy for some of the most respected education organisations in the UK.

Alongside this, he has led major public engagement initiatives in mathematics and science, expanding participation from a few hundred to several thousand people each year. His outreach work has brought new opportunities to schools, universities, and community audiences, often in partnership with national organisations.
